The Real Estate Group was out in force with associates gathering their families together for a fun evening of holiday festivities at the 2016 Grand Illumination Parade in Downtown Norfolk. This past Saturday we enjoyed a rather warm and sunny day that turned into a cold and breezy evening that felt just right for celebrating the kick-off to the holiday season.

Last year, TREG had the honor of debuting the Blue Angels balloon in the Grand Illumination Parade, and the crowd response was fantastic. This year was no different. The love for the military community was alive and well with all the bundled up families cheering, clapping, and waving from the sidewalks as the giant blue jet was expertly guided by our very own agents.

Memorial Day is coming up this weekend. Hampton Roads tends to come alive with all sorts of summer inspired events and festivals to help stay busy and enjoy a long weekend.

While thinking about the true meaning of Memorial Day, we came across some really great sites that inspired us and gave some perspective on the freedom we enjoy. As a business that serves a military town, we wanted to share as a way to show our appreciation for those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.

There has been a trend for a few years of “boots on the ground” memorials. Volunteers will gather military boots and lay out incredible temporary memorials to those who lost their lives serving our country.

Dominion Virginia Power gave me a behind the scenes tour of their ROC (Restricted Access) to share all the ways they are preparing for a hurricane to make sure they are fully powered up. 

As Hurricane Irene is headed toward the Hampton Roads area we hope everyone stays safe and make sure you are prepared for the storm.
