Once again, The Real Estate Group, its associates and their families participated in the 2017 Grand Illumination Parade in Downtown Norfolk this last Saturday. As anyone that’s lived in Norfolk during this time of year, the Grand Illumination Parade and the lighting of the buildings mark the start of the local holiday season.
This year, TREG again had the honor of walking the Blue Angels balloon in the 33rd annual parade, and the crowd response was fantastic. The love for the military community was alive and well with all the bundled up families cheering, clapping, and waving from the sidewalks as the giant blue jet was expertly guided by our very own agents, staff members and their family members.
For more than 30 years, families have gathered to line the parade route in the heart of Downtown Norfolk and cheer on the huge lineup of marching bands, elaborate floats, community groups, unique balloons, and thousands of holiday lights. This year’s theme, “From Sea to Shining Sea,” was meant to mark the centennial of Naval Station (NS) Norfolk, and the nautical theme was well represented. Capt. Rich McDaniel, Commanding Officer of NS Norfolk, was this year’s Grand Marshal of the parade.
When offered the opportunity to show our support for the men and women who serve by walking the Blue Angels balloon, TREG excitedly accepted. There is no better feeling than proudly supporting the folks who make up such an important part of our community. The crowd response is always fabulous, and nothing makes pulling a large balloon through windy streets more worth it than seeing little one's eyes light up as they wave to and cheer on the iconic jet!
The whole celebration was just what we needed to start feeling the holiday spirit. Great food and drinks, the TREG family, and spreading the love for those who serve all combined to make a special evening, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
