Everything going on in life regarding quarantine and social distancing can be hectic, it’s important to look at your home as not only a safe haven during this time, but also as a source of peace and relaxation. Adding calming elements to your home to make it an overall more tranquil place to be and will help you keep sane while spending most of your time indoors. Here are a few ways you can make your home feel more like a pleasant retreat.

String lights

Adding string lights to a space in your home can give that area a beautiful and calming soft glow. This is a great way to kick start the ambience in a room, string lights naturally give you a cozy “at home” feeling. The possibilities are endless for placement, drape the lights around a doorway, line the walls of your favorite room, or even spruce up your living room and weave the lights around your entertainment center or patio door frames.

Candles

Have you ever gotten a whiff of one of your favorite scents and it instantly brought you back to a memory or made you feel at home? That’s the same kind of feeling a nice candle can bring to life in your home. Make sure to look for scents that promote a sense of calmness, you may want to try an aromatherapy candle that includes lavender, chamomile, sandalwood, or eucalyptus. These are great scents that can make you feel calm, energized, or even more focused.

Fresh laundry

If you’ve been working from home, it’s likely that your pajamas have become your new WFH uniform. That said, it’s very easy to quickly burn through your comfortable loungewear! Make sure you keep a tight laundry schedule so that you have all of your favorite clothing in rotation. There’s nothing worse than not having your go-to WFH pants, having clean clothes everyday will help you feel inspired and refreshed.

Clean and organize

A clean and organized home makes for the most productive working environment. If you’ve been feeling unmotivated by the uncertainty of quarantine, make a day out of tidying up your space - turn on some tunes for added motivation. Maybe even consider reorganizing some of your furniture to make your space flow a little better, right before your eyes you’ll watch your home become a place you never want to leave!

Clean windows and let in natural night

Natural light is proven to boost your mood, that alone should get you opening your windows! Now is the time to make sure you’re getting as much natural light exposure as you can. Even if you don’t have a window in every room, making the most of what you have available can make your mood and your home feel a little brighter.

Eventually, this period of staying indoors and self isolation will be over. Making a few small adjustments to your home will help you get through quarantine by creating a space that you love that welcomes a sense of peace in uncertain times.
