                                  bike month

May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists, and celebrated in communities from coast to coast.  For fifty-five years, National Bike Month has been the perfect time for new or returning riders to get back on the saddle and ride their bike to school or work. Originally the Cycle Trade Association called the month American Bike Month but in 1956 it evolved to Bike Month. Along with the name change, Bike Month became more about promoting cycling and safe bicycling, not just selling bicycles.

  • More than 80% of bike commuters say they feel healthier and less stressed. You could, too.
  • Americans saved more than $4.6B by bicycling instead of driving in 2012 alone.

TREG Agents and staff – Ordinary people doing extraordinary things!

National Volunteer week is April 21-27 and in an effort to support our TREG agents and staff and their volunteerism, we want to introduce you to some of the organizations that they support and tell a little bit about their stories.  People are passionate about many things outside of their careers and families and supporting a cause that is dedicated to helping others is a great way to build relationships, create empowerment, participate in unique and exciting opportunities and let’s face it “Doing Good” is important.

Nonprofit organizations are created every day in an effort to create social change and the nonprofit sector makes up 1/3 of our nation’s economy.  Organizations

Boston

Last week’s events at the Boston Marathon touched the nation in ways that are indescribable.  We watched as runners who have pushed their limits to qualify, crossed the finish line at one of the nation’s most iconic running events.  Unfortunately, out of the over 23,000 marathon starters; only 17,580 actually finished.  TREG agent, David Phillips was one of those people, and although he was able to complete the race, he was profoundly affected by the events that transpired just minutes after he crossed the finish line.

"I was at the Boston Marathon only a block and a half away from where the first bomb exploded.  My parents arrived at the first bomb site at 7:45 in the morning in an attempt to get a spot as close to the finish line as possible. They

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide).  Since 1955, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been the driving force behind the pursuit of a cure. Thanks to the dedication and financial backing of their supporters — patients, families and friends, clinicians, researchers, volunteers, individual donors, corporations and staff, they are able to make a difference.

TREG agent Susan VanLandingham has been involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation since her daughter Rachel was diagnosed with CF at birth. In Rachel’s 15 years, her health has been up and down and her pulmonary function drops and rebounds on a regular basis.  After a

If you haven’t been dedicated to your Insanity workouts since September in preparation for the upcoming bathing suit season, don’t fret! There is still time to get in shape for the summer season and avoid the urge to wear your grandmother’s housecoat over your bathing suit to the beach.  Whether it is a gym membership you need, or some “do it yourself” ideas for home; with a little motivation and dedication, you can achieve results by the time you unpack those summer clothes from the attic.

Joining a gym, recreation center or a fitness club is a great way to not only help get yourself motivated, but build camaraderie and develop friendships.  Everyone knows that working out with a buddy helps with accountability, not to mention it is much more fun

bbq flames

With Easter behind us, spring break well underway and our weather getting consistently warmer here in Hampton Roads, many people have the sudden urge to clean up the backyard BBQ grill and try something new.  Whether it is an experimental BBQ sauce recipe or a new way to grill up fresh veggies, our BBQ options are endles.  Check out some of TREG's favorite BBQ sauce and grilled vegetable recipes.

The key to good BBQ is all in the sauce.  What tickles your BBQ fancy? Is it the North Carolina vinegar base taste? Maybe mustard? Or rich, thick and sweet? Either way, BBQ sauce isn't just for ribs anymore.  Try using it on hamburgers, hotdogs and fresh vegetables.  Mix it with tomato sauce and put it on pizza, or better yet, use it by itself.  A spoonful
