About the Base
Naval Station Norfolk, also known as the Norfolk Navy Base, Norfolk Naval Station, or NS Norfolk, supports the US Fleet Forces Command’s that operate in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and the Indian Ocean. It is the world’s largest Naval Base and spans about four miles (6 km) of waterfront space and seven miles (11 km) of pier and wharf space of the Hampton Roads peninsula known a Sewell’s Point.

Naval Station Norfolk offers many support services for families relocating with their service member. There is a Fleet & Family Support Center on base who can be reached at 757.444.2102. They can provide you with information on things to do in the area, local transportation, base and city maps, and even air mattresses, tables and chairs, and pots and pans. The FFSC also has a school liaison officer on board who can coordinate school services as well as provide assistance for those with special needs. There are many choices for both public and private education.
